Spanish horchata
Today we are going to present you a Spanish vegetable drink made from yellow tigernuts(tchongon in West Africa). It is suitable for everyone, especially those who are lactose intolerant and those who have nut allergies.
Indeed, yellow tigernuts are pseudo-nuts that can be used to make your own vegetable milk or consumed raw as a snack !
Here's everything you need to make your homemade horchata :
Ingredients
- 250 g of yellow tigernuts available in our online store
- 150 g of sugar
- 1 L of water
- Cinnamon powder (optional)
- Ice cubes (optional)
Equipment
- 1 blender
- 1 strainer
- 1 cheesecloth
- 1.5 L carafe
- 1 medium or 1 large bowl
Preparation
- Wash the tigernuts in cold water
- Place them in your bowl with 2 to 3 times their volume of water
- Cover the bowl with a clean cloth
- Let it soak for 24 hours (to soften them). It is an essential step !
- Strain and rinse the tigernuts with the strainer
- Pour the tigernuts, water and sugar into your blender
- Filter the mixture with the cheesecloth
- Pour the liquid into the carafe
- Add ice cubes and a hint of cinnamon (at your convenience)
- Enjoy!
